San Diego Superior Court Increases Court Reporting Services
After a nearly seven-year absence, court reporters will once again be available in certain Family Court proceedings. Court reporters were eliminated from Family Court cases beginning in 2012, and further reduced in 2017 as the Superior Court faced unprecedented budget cuts. Beginning March 2, 2020, court reporters will now be available in all Family Court proceedings at court expense, with the exception of Family Law trials.
“Starting 2012, the San Diego Superior Court has faced more than $30 million in cuts, reduced its workforce by nearly 20% and shored up operations by consolidating court services, closing courtrooms and removing court reporters in non-mandated court proceedings. The budget picture for the court continues to improve, and with recent additions to the budget directed toward the provision of reporting services, the Court is beginning the process of restoring court reporter services to our Family Law courtrooms,” says Mike Roddy, the San Diego Superior Court Executive Officer.
