Traffic Court Reminder Notices for Drivers Licenses Expiring in 2030

Traffic Court Reminder Notices for a limited number of individuals may have inaccurately omitted traffic violator school eligibility information due to a system error in the court’s case management system. Potentially affected individuals include those who (1) received a traffic citation, (2) have a California Driver License expiring in 2030, and (3) were not notified they are eligible for traffic violator school in their Traffic Court Reminder Notice. Some of these individuals may in fact be eligible for traffic violator school.

Drivers with licenses expiring on or before December 31, 2029, are not affected by the system error and their Traffic Court Reminder Notices accurately display traffic violator school eligibility.

The San Diego Superior Court and other California courts using the same case management system are working with our vendor, Tyler Technologies, to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Eligibility to attend traffic violator school is outlined in Cal. Rules of Court, rule 4.104, and is determined by both the type of offense and the driving or criminal history of the ticketed motorist.

If you have not yet resolved a traffic citation, your driver license expires in 2030, and you are unsure of whether you are eligible for traffic violator school, you may confirm your eligibility by visiting the appropriate courthouse in person, calling the appropriate Traffic Division during phone hours between 8:30-11:30 a.m., or making an online request to attend traffic school though the court’s Traffic Portal.

If you have already resolved your traffic citation but believe that you should have been eligible for traffic violator school, you may submit an online inquiry. Court staff will review your inquiry. Inquiries submitted correctly will receive a written response, including a determination of eligibility for traffic violator school, via U.S. mail within 2-3 weeks.
